BITU inks new Wage and Fringe Benefits Agreement with Bahia Principe Hotel

The BITU and the Management of the Bahia Principe Hotel concluded negotiations for a new wage contract, which spans January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019 with the signing of a Heads of Agreement on May 1, 2018 coinciding with this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The negotiations commenced with the usual Clarification Meeting on March 6, 2018 and were aided to an amicable completion by the presence and involvement of corporate personnel from the Hotel’s owners.

The agreement features unprecedented double digit increases in gratuity payments; a realignment of the rates paid to Housekeeping Staff; lump sum contributions from the hotel to workers Pension Plan; gracious increases in education grant facilities (children of staff); commitments in relation to staff appointments and training & certification; and double digit accumulated across-the-board increases on salary over the two (2) years.

Negotiations on behalf of workers comprising the two Bargaining Units were lead by the Union’s President, Senator Kavan Gayle and Vice President, Rudolph Thomas, supported by Chief Delegates Gregory Nembhard (Supervisory and Clerical) and Oneil Williams (Line Staff) along with other members of the Delegates’ body.
